EssentialSkillz have created on online DSE self risk assessment as part of their ErgoWize solution. Users must first complete and pass the associated DSE training course before being granted access to the risk assessment. The solution is designed in this way to ensure that they are competent and possess the appropriate degree of knowledge to enable them to complete their DSE risk assessment accurately.
Questionnaire
Users must then complete an online questionnaire covering all aspects of their immediate working environment and how they interact with it. The standard DSE risk assessment question set is based on HSE guidelines and can be adapted and amended if necessary. The questionnaire is multiple choice, but contains text boxes to allow users to further articulate details of symptoms or problems should they need to expand upon a specific issue.
Severity of risk
User responses to each question are graded with different levels of risk, enabling system administrators to identify the numbers and severity of any associated DSE concerns and prioritise intervention accordingly.
User qualification of risk
Users are encouraged to take a considered and sensible approach to the risk assessment and resolve concerns during this process where appropriate. Responses that generate additional follow up from DSE Assessors must be verified as genuine by the user, who may amend answers accordingly once they realise the work load involved in resolving their issue. This also allows for mistaken responses to be corrected. Suggested resolutions "pop up" during the DSE risk assessment, potentially allowing the individual to close off the risk at source, responsibly filtering the amount of issues DSE Assessors ultimately have to deal with.
Prioritisation
Where resolution of risk by the end user is not possible or appropriate, the software quickly and easily directs DSE Assessors and system administrators to the remaining outstanding concerns. The ErgoWize Tracking and Reporting Tool allows administrators to record, manage and implement the necessary control measures required to solve these outstanding problems.
Flexibility
At EssentialSkillz we recognise that environments and methodologies vary from organisation to organisation and that a standard generic DSE question set may not always be appropriate. Risk assessment questions may date over time, due to the implementation of new technology for example. With the ErgoWize DSE Risk Assessment, the customer can add, remove or amend questions at anytime, even post roll out, without the need for costly customisation work.
